ABOUT US

     Why LaManchas?

Known as 'the ear-less goat', the LaMancha breed is the only breed of goat developed in the United States.  The LaMancha breed was first formally registered in 1958 to the American Dairy Goat Association.

No, we did not cut their ears off.  The LaMancha goat was bred for their short ears, hardy nature, and high production.  LaManchas can thrive in almost any condition.  Harsh conditions leave little impact on their milk production.  As a dairy goat, they are known for their high milk production, excellent dairy temperament, and their milk's relatively high butterfat content.  The butterfat content in their milk is at the perfect level to make very sweet milk, yet, not too high, as that creates a higher risk of bad flavour in the milk.  They are an all-around sturdy animal and can make a good addition to your farm.

Our Farm is Family Operated

As a homeschooling Christian family of nine daughters and one son, we endeavor to do all to the glory of God, both in maintenance, and in all our dealings.  There is much value and true treasure in working together with our hands and hearts, as a family, in harmony. When things are done God's way, the outcome is always good, and the blessing is huge!

Our goats are very well socialized and very friendly animals. With many hands and hearts to care for them, they rarely lack for attention!

We hand-milk our milkers and bottle feed our kids to insure well-shaped udders, and for best results in freshening and milking.

All our kids are very affectionate and friendly, with gentle temperaments.

Our herd is tested annually for CAE, and is kept free of CL, Johnes, other harmful diseases & viruses, parasites and lice. We do not keep week and ill goats on our farm, and keep does that are overall, easy birthers and easy to milk.

We vaccinate our herd with CD/T (Cavalry9), and administrate BoSe and Copasure on a regular basis.

All our kids are:

  • able to be registered with ADGA

  • administered BoSe, Vit. E & BoviSera at birth

  • disbudded

  • vaccinated regularly

  • on a Coccidia prevention

...to insure a healthy outcome!

Background Herd History...

We were first introduced to the LaMancha breed of dairy goats in 2009.  We had recently moved to a new subdivision South of Cheyenne Wyoming when we met our new neighbours, Craig & Joellen Strode of "Calico-Bluffs LaManchas".  They had been into the goat business for over 20 years and were now retiring from it, due to physical reasons.  Much thanks to them, they helped us get started with these excellent, friendly, and hardy animals!  Believe me, it was NOT 'love-at-first-sight' for us, but after working with these LaManchas, we soon came to the conclusion that you couldn't get much better!  We have experienced a few other breeds, but none have compared with these LaManchas!

Much thanks to the Strode family for helping us out many times in many ways, getting started with these very nice goats, and for being kind and generous neighbours!

"Calico-Bluffs" registered and showed their goats; now we are keeping these great bloodlines going, although we do not show ourselves.

The year of 2014 found our family, with our goats, in the moist and green rolling hills near Amish country, in Wayne County, Ohio.  No longer do we live on the dry, sunny and windy Southern bluffs of Cheyenne, Wyoming.  Ohio's new climate wasn't an easy adjustment for the goat herd, or the owners, but after much research and help from vets and friends, we have found solutions to, and methods of prevention from unnecessary problems in goat health and management.  Since getting the goat business going here, our goats have been on demand from customers in Ohio and other neighbouring states!

Our herd is prospering here, and the Lord is with us as we continue to seek Him and obey Him!

Proverbs 27

23 ΒΆ Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
24 For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
25 The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
26 The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
27 And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.

Isaiah 40:11

He shall feed His flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

Your site and the pictures in it is absolutely beautiful. I enjoyed and learned a lot. I don't know, why did it... it's good.  ~Tanya, VA

I really like the exposure to truth you have on your site. God bless you for that!  ~Sheila, OH

...I just really like the look of your herd and udders, and I'm willing to wait and see what happens and what you have leftover at the end of the season. I'd be happy with does out of any of your does. I like that you breed from show lines, but they get to live the homestead life and not just stand in a stall in front of a hay rack their whole lives getting fat for showing... ~Natalie, PA

You have a really nice herd! ~Jen
